Support for local charities
Working in partnership with ‘Hands on London’, a registered charity dedicated to community based volunteering, a group of employees from the London based office spent the day on Monday 29th October diligently organising and sorting through mountains of charitable food donations for the homeless.
Spires, a South London based charity that helps hundreds of homeless and disadvantaged people all year round, had the Gordon Brothers team working hard. The charity, who aims to improve the quality of life of people who are homeless, insecurely housed, unemployed or suffering from the effects of poverty, mental ill health and loneliness, gave employees the chance to give back and support the local community.
The team sorted through thousands of tins of baked beans, sweetcorn and packets of pasta, cereals and biscuits from Spires harvest donations, into expire date order and small care packages to be given to those in need. Individuals were kept busy washing out dirty containers, heavy lifting crates of food into storage facilities as well as packing tin by tin into small cubbyholes.
Frank Morton, CEO of Gordon Brothers Europe commented, “We are committed to the communities in which we live, work and do business. Investing our time to those less fortunate is a small way in which we can demonstrate this commitment and assist those in need.”
